Extremadura’s garlic-growing trade has its traditional centre in Aceuchal, in the county of Tierra de Barros. For that reason, a group of 40 or so farmers decided to set up Ajos Tierra de Barros, S.C. (Tierra de Barros Garlic Cooperative) and help put Aceuchal on the map. Back when we started, we would produce 500,000 kg of garlic each year, but as more and more partners joined our initiative, our annual garlic production jumped to 3 million kg.
Ajos Tierra de Barros has continued to grow with the clear goal of investing in cutting-edge machinery and technology in order to take full advantage of our natural resources. This is evident in our acquisition of a whole range of tools aimed at streamlining operations, from netting and peeling machines to a paste-maker.
We hold sustainability close to our heart here at the Cooperativa de Ajos de Extremadura (Extremadura Garlic Cooperative). We strive to reduce our environmental footprint during each step of the production process, from growing to packaging, because we know that looking after our land today means guaranteeing the quality of tomorrow’s produce.
When you choose our garlic, you’re not just getting an exceptional product; you’re also supporting a cooperative that puts its customers and Mother Nature above all else. You’ll find the commitment to quality, freshness and flavour that sets us apart in each and every order.
